Kayla McBride starred on the basketball court for Notre Dame for four seasons.

On Saturday, the school rewarded the Erie native with Notre Dame immortality by enshrining her into its Ring of Honor at Purcell Pavilion at the Joyce Center.

McBride, nicknamed “K-Mac”, was honored in a ceremony before the Fighting Irish played their season opener, a 121-65 win over Mount St. Mary’s. The school played a highlight video and unrolled a banner featuring her last name, her No. 21 and the years 2010-14.

“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome the newest member of the Notre Dame Ring of Honor, No. 21, K-Mac, Kayla McBride,” the Notre Dame announcer’s voice boomed.

The Villa Maria Academy graduate fought back tears as she spoke to the large crowd at Purcell Pavilion.
