Kayla McBride will represent the United States this weekend in the FIBA women’s basketball qualifying tournament after making the Team USA roster on Monday.

McBride, a Villa Maria Academy graduate, is among 12 players to make the roster.

She is one of seven guards along with Ariel Atkins, Allisha Gray, Chelsea Gray, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Mitchell and Kelsey Plum. Team USA also has five forwards with Stefanie Dolson, Dearica Hamby, Natasha Howard, Brionna Jones and Alyssa Thomas.

Team USA’s new head coach, Cheryl Reeve, chose the 12 players from 17 who appeared at a recent camp in Washington.

The team will compete against Belgium on Friday night and Puerto Rico on Saturday in the FIBA World Cup qualifying tournament. Reeve is the head coach of the Minnesota Lynx, which includes McBride, during the WNBA regular season.

Team USA has already qualified for the FIBA championships as the 2020 gold-medal winner.

McBride, 29, is on a break from playing in Turkey for Fenerbahce Safiport. She is averaging 20.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this winter. McBride’s scoring average leads the EuroLeague.

In eight WNBA seasons, McBride has 3,296 points, 783 rebounds, 533 assists and 240 steals.
